CubeSat

Develop the autonomous digital system of a CubeSat responsible for acquiring environmental data and exchanging telecommands and telemetry with its ground station.

Project objective

The client requires the CubeSat to measure its distance from an obstacle, acceleration, internal and external temperatures, external humidity, ultraviolet radiation and atmospheric pressure. It must transmit timestamped measurements, receive telecommands from the ground station and remain available when a measurement or frame is invalid.

Prerequisites

  • Write synchronous VHDL modules and state machines.
  • Read a datasheet and verify a circuit through simulation.

Skills you will practice

  • Select components for multi-sensor acquisition.
  • Organize controllers, timeouts and telemetry exchanges.
  • Verify a VHDL flight system and prepare its XDC constraints.

Project phases

  1. Requirements and Component Selection

Analyze system needs, then select components that meet them.

  2. Internal Architecture and Timing Budget

Formalize controllers, arbiters, timeouts, and flows before implementation.

  3. Complete Flight-System Implementation

Implement and verify the complete flight system.

Expected deliverable

Expected delivery: component selection justified by datasheets, an architecture note and synthesizable VHDL sources demonstrating compliance with the complete specification.
